Wed 21 Feb 2024 - Mersea Island Challenge
The Mersea Island Challenge 2024 is an inter-club competition organised by the Mersea Island Club and consists of 12 clubs who each submit 5 images, each by a different photographer. Each club hosts a round in which all 60 images are judged independently.
At the end of the final judging the club with the highest number of points wins the trophy. This is an ideal opportunity to see work from 11 other clubs from all over the country and assess how our work compares with others.

The first part will be discussion and feedback about the images sent in for this month. The second half will be a tutorial about layers and particularly on blending modes to understand how they work together and how you can use them.

Tue 24 Oct 2023 - Project Group Meeting - How to be your own Critic
The second project meeting will continue the three chosen themes, but also have a session on self-critique.
As you are the person who has to make the choices about what to keep and what to enter into competitions etc, we will look at how to assess your images for technical quality, lighting and composition and eliminate mistakes for the future.

A presentation of Howard's images. Howard Denner was born in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales in 1944. He graduated from the University of Cardiff with a BSc & PhD in biochemistry. After four years academic research he joined the Food Science Division of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries & Food in London in 1972 & lived in Upminster, Essex. In 1992 he was appointed Chief Scientist (Food).
During the whole of this period he was a very keen amateur photographer & developed an aptitude for 'street photography'. He lectured to Photographic Societies...
